Benny, Everlie and Delaney

Welcome Delaney! She’s a new addition to the Cope home,  Everlie’s birth sister adopted from Korea. She’s all cheeks and giggles. Geri and Eric, Delaney’s mom and dad are passionate about and active with the Touch a Life foundation.   They held a holiday photo fundraiser last year to help support the foundation.

She’s going to fit in just fine with these two jokesters.

I love Christmas jammies. For some reason they are warmer than all other jammies!

Best. Smile. Ever.

Here is Everlie around the same age as Delaney a few years ago.

I see what you’re doing there, Benny.

Table for five please!

Holiday Byers

On a blustery December Day, the Byers clan piled into Dad’s truck and headed down to Forest Park for the annual Holiday Photo session. Playing the drums on Dad’s truck helped keep our fingers warm.

Shiloh is doing pretty well adjusting to the role of Big Sister. It wasn’t that long ago that she was the newest addition to the family!

Ryder is growing so fast!

Now there are three Byers kiddos instead of two! We of course had to pose in front of the Forest Park map. Wyatt loves maps.

There is something about a gummy baby grin that is intoxicating.

Ho ho ho!

Santino….. plus Tiff+Trae’s Engagements

Hi, I’m Santino.

My mom has great taste in shoes. Last night at the SAG awards Tina Fey wore the pair of Christian Louboutins that she was eying for her wedding shoes (until she realized they were $3,000).

My dad Trae is an entrepreneur extraordinaire- his latest endeavor is a gluten free catering company  Metabolic Meals. (Michelle: I’ll be eating it for dinner on the wedding day! Thanks Trae!)

I have quite a vivacious personality and like to show it off with my wardrobe- here is my Halloween card Tiff and Trae sent out this past year. Wait until you see me on the wedding day!

Information Corner: the 50mm family

First of all, Canon spoken here only. Second, Wikipedia has a really great article about 50mm lenses here.

My two cents: The 50 comes in four forms:

the great (1.8, $100)

the awesome (what I use, 1.4, $350)

the drool-inducing (1.2, $1500)

and the unicorn of lenses (1.0, out of production, very few made).

The 1.8 is perfect and definitely where I would start! You will get a lot of use out of it. The differences are lowest aperture available (thus the 1.x numbers) and the chromatic aberration (technical explanation here). Chromatic aberration is a weird blue or red ghosting around areas of highlight you can get when you shoot at the lowest aperture available. The 1.8 gets it badly, the 1.4 gets it a little, and apparently the 1.2 doesn’t get it at all. It’s only noticeable when viewing the digital image closely. 1.2 owners, feel free to weigh in on this subject.

Note: I did forget to mention the 2.5 Macro. Now that I’ve remembered it, I’m going to purposely exclude it from the post. Ha! The lenses mentioned above are coveted for portability, speed, and performance in low light situations- all important when documenting events. The Macro 50 doesn’t compete in those areas. It’s built for detail and is relatively slow compared to the list above. A great addition to anyone’s bag, sure, but just not in this list.

The Gifted Wedding

I was able to be part of a very moving event Saturday- I wish I had words to
describe this wedding/vow renewal. I believe I am forever changed just by
witnessing it.

In short, Anna (bride) and Manuel (groom) had a sort and sweet courthouse
ceremony fifteen years ago and have been living happily ever after… until
a few years ago when Anna was diagnosed with Lou Gherig’s disease. In the
last few months, she casually mentioned to her best of friends, “You know, I
really wish I would have been able to have a nice wedding…” and once word
spread of her wish, the STL wedding community rallied to grant it.

Manuel sees Anna for the first time that day. He is an incredible man who loves Anna with reckless abandon. Throughout the day you could see a wide spectrum of emotion wash across his face- joy, heartbreak, gratitude…

The Gifted Wedding Rehearsal

A small glimpse into the rehearsal tonight is here. Wedding is tomorrow. The slideshow will be available for viewing on Thursday. Thank you everyone!

The New Year is happy already.

2010 looks to be full of promise- we will kick off the season this Saturday with a Anna and Manuel’s wedding.  You can read more about this touching event at the Gifted Wedding website. An excerpt from the site is below:

“Anna and Manuel Jimenez were married in a simple courthouse ceremony over 15 years ago. They have three beautiful children; Kristina is 13, Gianna is 8 and Joseph is 6. Anna was a vivacious, hard-working  mom until she noticed a twitching in her arm that would soon change the lives of her and her family.”

Thank you to Kelly Manno (due any day now!) for passing this opportunity to me to bless Anna and her family. Look the images on the blog soon, or for lightning fast sneek peeks fan the Under Grace Facebook page.
