Happy Birthday, Mom. I couldn’t ask for a more awesome Meemaw to my kiddos!
One of the nice things about Christmas Traditions is that it provides a ruler by which we can gauge change. It’s amazing how much Sydney has changed in a year. My little girl is a thoughtful, independent three year old.

..enjoying the fruit of her labor.

…being really amazed that cookies come from other places than a box in the pantry.

…making important decisions- like the placement of Christmas wreaths on the Christmas chapel.
Of course they all go on the steeple… DUH MOM.

…going on a tree-finding adventure with Daddy and Henry.

…toughing through nap time to find the perfect Christmas Tree.

…hanging all her handmade decorations- on one special branch.

Merry Christmas everyone!
The Fendya Family- founded in 2007:

Shannon and Tom had so much love they needed someone else to share it with! It was too much for just two people. Enter little John.

He was not AT ALL happy that he had to stand still.

A big hug from Dad made it much better.

…. and home was a much nicer place to play anyway.

This is his favorite place to hide. Can you find him?

A few weekends ago (the freakishly warm one) I ran into our neighbors while waiting in between sessions. We had a bit of fun and captured one of my favorite images to date- look for this one on the upcoming new website!

Sydney loves playing with the girls when we see them outside. She just blends right in like another sister with them, running and playing and shrieking like little girls do!

The Kustura family is very close to my heart. I’ve been photographing Vincent since he was a wee baby. He is very close to my own daughter’s age! For this session we visited MOBOT’s Gardenland Express.

The trains wound around tiny intricate models of the Botanical Gardens and many other famous Saint Louis Parks.

I see the Piper Palm House!

Vincent loves trains. This is our second session here (last year was a chilly Forest Park session)- we did one two years ago around his first birthday. He had just figured out how to point his index finger then. This year he has mastered not only the index finger point, but can describe the trains in great detail to you too!

He loooooves his daddy.

This particular weekend had spring weather! So odd. People were jogging in shorts next to the riverside ice rink! The Saint Charles Christmas Traditions festival was so fun to see. I took Sydney to see it the very next day! Here the Civil War Santa was helping us bribe the kids to smile.

I feel like this session really captured Mason’s personality. Spunky and playful!

All dressed up for a business meeting and ready to party!

You can see Mylie has gotten a bit bigger! She is all ready for the holidays.

1. How did your husband pop the question?
The short version: He called me while I was at work, said he would pick me up (because I left my car at home since I had been traveling in a company car all week) and we would have a bonfire & cook food with some friends of ours that evening. I was a bit fussy because I was wearing dressy work clothes/shoes to a bonfire and it was pretty cold that night which I wasn’t at all prepared for. His buddy pulled his boat up to the shoreline that is near my office and drove me over to the island in the middle of Table Rock Lake where we’d be having the bonfire. Suddenly my husband’s friend got a call on his cell and said his girlfriend had arrived and needed to be picked up on the shore. Well come to find out, the call was fake, the friend went fishing for an hour while my husband busted out a catered dinner he picked up from a fancy restaurant near by and we ate it by the fire on blankets. Then the wind changed and as we were moving the blankets closer to the fire, my husband got down on one knee, popped open the ring box and said “Will You Marry Me?” The rest is history.

2. How far in advance did you start planning?
We got engaged the middle of October and we got married the middle of June so from start to finish, 8 months.
3. Where (if anywhere) did you go on your honeymoon?
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (Riu Palace All-Inclusive Resort) – AWESOME!
4. What elements of your wedding were DIY (if any)?
Invitations, guest book, programs & program baskets, place cards, menu cards, table numbers, floral centerpieces, table linens, aisle decorations, and candle holders (tables).

My mom and I tackled these projects together. We also booked & planned our own Honeymoon.
5. What about your wedding caught you by surprise?
We lost our original unity candles and then the outdoor lighters we had for our replacement unity candles wouldn’t work. No biggie. Then the only other thing that was surprising was our band made my husband and I sing the “Na Na Na Na Goodbye” song to all of our guests before we drove off.

6. Now that you are a wedding planning veteran, would you change anything if you had to do it all over again?
As much as I enjoyed making my invitations, I think I would make them more simple next time (if you’re a DIY person). I would allow more time for pictures…in my mind you can never have enough! I wouldn’t change much at all…my day went amazingly smooth and as long as you get to the “whatever happens, happens” stage, you’ll have a fantastic wedding day.

7. Describe the moment you remember most fondly from your wedding day.
The fireworks, crying like a baby during the Father-Daughter Dance

8. List any helpful links/websites/vendors you used during the planning stages.
Theknot.com, my MOM, Cedar Lake Farm, Ethyl’s Smokehouse (caterer), Under Grace Photography.
9. What advice would you give to future brides?

It’s been a few months since I’ve seen Elliott. I did a doubletake when I saw her this past Saturday! It’s hard to believe that in such a short amount of time Elliott went from this:

to this!!

She is growing so fast!

I thought the signage below to be particularly truthful about the joys of parenting.

Elliott is so happy, too! My grandma always says, “Happy mommy, happy baby!”

Any experienced event photographer will tell you that, much like a spy noting the exit points of a room he enters, we note ‘sweet spots’ of light in each area we enter. It becomes innate- even when we aren’t on the job we notice it.
The Visitor’s Center at this hour of the day had some pretty brilliant, harsh light shooting through the windows- which is often problematic. Luckily for me, Christina wore this white fuzzy sweater, which when placed at just the right angle, reflected light perfectly! The sun is hitting right on the inside of Christina’s arm and highlighting Elliott’s face in the image below:

Thank you, fuzzy sweater, for that kiss of light on Elliott’s cheeks!

Another ten dollar Sephora giveaway starts with this post! Comment below on your favorite part of Carrie’s wedding to enter.

Jellies! The perfect breezy summer shoe!

Mary Ann of Floral Memories and More (who did the flowers for my own wedding) knocked the bouquets out of the park. What was even better than the beauty was the smell… oh the smell! Delicate and fresh and dewy *sigh*

A little sha-bling never hurt anyone….

Kyle did all of the graphic design for the wedding. He’s a modern Renaissance Man.

The chapel was transformed with a few well-placed gelled lights.

Yummo!
